Measure the opening and the usable space
Write down the narrowest width, the shelf depth and the clear height. A door hinge or shelf bracket can reduce the space you can use. Record the measurements in cm and mark which dimension is which before comparing a listing.
Leave room to reach what is inside
Picture the box in use. Will you lift its lid on the shelf or pull the whole box out? Check the space above and in front for that movement. A paper outline of the listed footprint can help you plan the layout; it does not confirm that an actual box will fit.
Check what the measurements include
IKEA lists the KUGGIS storage box with lid, 005.268.75, as 32 × 32 × 32 cm. Treat these as external dimensions, rather than the usable volume inside.
